Local research plays a key role in this JSNA, providing insight into the experiences, needs and priorities of Wolverhampton residents and helping to inform evidence-based decision-making, commissioning and service development.
This report details the project carried out in Wolverhampton from February 2026 – April 2026 to investigate barriers and facilitators to cervical screening uptake in Wolverhampton’s LGBT+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and other sexual orientations and gender identities) community.

The University of Wolverhampton undertakes inclusive, world-leading research across health and wellbeing, social care, and the wider determinants of health. Our multidisciplinary academic teams work in partnership with City of Wolverhampton Council, communities, practitioners and wider stakeholders to develop applied research that tackles real-world challenges, reduces health inequalities and improves outcomes for our diverse population. Through coproduction, inclusive research methodologies and knowledge-exchange, we generate evidence that strengthens professional practice and supports strategic decision-making across the local health and care system.
